"Picky Patty!"

To be an excellent writer, you must be an excellent critic! Anyone can critic a paper, it takes a polite, specific, and knowledgeable peer editor to help a classmate. The better you know as a writer, the better you can help someone else with their writing.

There are a few steps to always follow when trying to help out another writer: stay positive, be specific, and compliment! Without a positive attitude and a helpful hand, peer editing can be a little tricky. As long as you follow these three simple rules, you can't lose!

"The Struggles of Special Needs Students"

Ipad
The blind, deaf, and other special needs students we will have to face in the future need different types of help than others. Thankfully, our ever changing technological world has allowed these children to learn in even better ways! There have been multiple typewriters, vocal computers/nooks, and even the Ipad has developed a vocal pad for the blind.

It is important for us, as uprising educators, to be prepared and knowledgeable about our new and changing technology. As teachers, we must be ready to interact with any and every student no matter what needs we must meet. It's amazing we now have the technology to accommodate for students who can't understand certain lessons without the help of vocal computers and books.

In my classroom I intend to have my own personal vocal Ipad, considering they are the only company to offer this element, just for the students that need a little extra help. As a student and future educator I am aware that funding for schools can be harsh, so I want to be prepared the best way I can.

"Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts"

It's amazing to see that teachers, especially Vicky Davis, around the world have been adapting the way they teach and harnessing the way technology can help students. We as a world and as a nation can help one-another to learn and open our minds to brand new ideas. Blogging and collaborating with peers can help a student become more interested and have fun while actually soaking in the information being put out.

thinking
When I'm teaching my students, I can only hope to know how to create mindful students. Using technology I hope to create students that think for themselves and become more aware of their surroundings.

"Did You Know"

I was told to watch Dr. Strange's Did You Know? 3.0 - A John Strange 2012 Version. I did not know how fast technology is growing. I did not realize how many people use YouTube and also had computers in their homes across the world, let alone in the United States.  If we do not wake up, pull together as a nation, and ignite more momentum behind our education systems, our future generations (and possibly some our own generation) will be gravely disturbed by the academic and occupational crises which they may be unable to escape. The facts that are presented in the video are terrifying, but it does not have to remain this way. Those of us who are enrolled in EDM 310 are on our way to becoming teachers, the future hope for America's classrooms.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

"Mr. Winkle Wakes" is an interesting video that, in my opinion, shows both the pros and cons of technology use in our world today. He discovers all the new aspects of today's world by just walking down the street. He stops by the hospital and discovers machines who breath for humans that can't on their own.

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

Sir Ken Robinson covered some very important issues in his video. The number one issue being creativity. His thoughts on creativity are great. Creativity is not only useful in the arts. Creativity should be incorporated into the main subjects in school. Our society makes the arts seem unimportant or unnecessary to our children being successful, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Pinterest

Pinterest has to be the best site. It has so many neat ideas to choose from! I could use many of the ideas in my classroom. Pinterest is going to give me some good ideas for cute projects and classroom artwork, especially if I end up being an elementary school teacher. I'm definitely going to use it to find some pictures that I can make and put on the walls of my class that will serve as simple reminders to help my students; such as cues to remember when trying to organize an outline for a paper.

About me

My name is Samantha Spence. I am twenty years old, I will be twenty-one on May 4th. I come from a small town and family in Lucedale, Ms. I went to George County High school where I played softball for three years. After graduation, I went on to play softball at a few community colleges then decided to come finish my college career at South Alabama. My stepfather, Todd Dungan, graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree here many years ago so the Jaguar culture runs deep in my blood.

I currently reside in Mobile, Al with three other roommates in a house by campus. I work at Academy here in Mobile and live a life just like any other college student. I enjoy spending my time with family and friends outdoors. I substitute teach on a somewhat regular basis, giving me some pretty good practice for the future. Although I am probably different than everyone else in some way, I am an average college student working every day towards my Education degree.

My Future Classroom

Most teachers have very similar classrooms, usually consisting of a multiplication chart or a "Hang in there" kitten poster; however, I've always had this vision of my classroom as this creation made by my students each year. Instead of posters bought or made by me or past students throughout my teaching career, I'd like my students to make the classroom each and every year. Throughout the year, the room will evolve and change. My walls will fill with new creations and evidence of how my students have learned all year long.

Of course each teacher has to follow the same type of curriculum, certain worksheets have to be given out and so forth, but I have this vision of teaching through creation. Anything I can make into a fun and creative project for my students, I will. A childs' mind is playful and imaginative, it would be ridiculous not to allow that child's mind to pour out into something creative and educational. Learning will be more than fun in my future classroom, it will become evidence made by my students and that evidence will cover and fill the walls.

Time Management

Time is a valuable thing. The way someone uses, distributes, and wastes their time can say a lot about their life and the way they plan to live it. My time is precious, I never know when or where it will be up; therefore, I like to be very cautious on how I spend it. I have several goals and ideas I'd like to reach and create; however, I can't meet or create any of my goals or ideas without using my time wisely. If there is a deadline, you must meet the deadline. If you never meet the deadline, then the deadline is pointless. Time is valuable, so I do not waste it.
